Organizing research infrastructure sustainably - from humans, mice and machines

As in previous years, we are creating a framework for an informative and constructive exchange with this event. For the first time, this summit will take place in a hybrid format, i.e. online participation is possible as well as participation in presence at the DLR site in Cologne. Online participants will be integrated into the live experience via the virtual event platform and will receive identical content and interaction opportunities as the on-site participants.

The title gives away our focus. Different formats support us to work on the topic together in depth: Keynotes for new food for thought, four content-moderated workshops as a dialogue space, and a high-level panel discussion to raise awareness of the topic within the Helmholtz Association. The on-site participants can also look forward to a get-together on the evening of the first day of the event in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere at the DLR site in Cologne.

In the on-site and online workshops, you can explore the following topics:

Workshop 1: Energy management, energy saving, carbon dioxide impact

Workshop 2: Procurement, recycling, life cycle analysis, innovative financing options

Workshop 3: Responsible user behavior, dealing with the energy and climate crisis, and related culture change

Workshop 4: Renovating and constructing research buildings in a resource-efficient way, selecting building materials sustainably

Recommendations for action from the 3rd Helmholtz Sustainability Summit

The 3rd Helmholtz Sustainability Summit has ended with the digital wrap-up on October 20, 2022. The Summit was reviewed again during this good 70-minute event - with impressions, various interviews, feedback and the presentation of the recommendations for action. Special attention was paid to this. The Helmholtz Working Group Forum Sustainability worked up the individual results once again in detail and formulated recommendations for action from them. These recommendations for action were presented to the participants during the wrap-up. So that they are also available at the administrative level of the Helmholtz Association. The centers can use the recommendations to develop and implement independent measures.

Video impressions

During the event, we recorded images and sound, which we used for an impression video and statements afterwards. Please have a look at this impression video of the 3rd Helmholtz Sustainability Summit. Perhaps the invigorating atmosphere that could be experienced at the event will jump out at you. We also let our participants have their say. They describe their impressions of the Summit in short statements.
